WISDOM TEETH MYTHS
Ideal age for wisdom tooth removal is in 30s
It is best to have impacted wisdom teeth removed while you are young & healthy (age 16 to 20)when the roots are not fully formed allowing for easier removal of the wisdom teeth which means less post-operative pain and faster healing.
My wisdom teeth hurt on and off so I can leave it longer
Wisdom teeth that are left for a “wait and see approach” will often be harder to remove and may result in a slower and more painful healing phase. There is also a greater chance of complications from the surgery to remove them.
I will have to take many weeks off work after the surgery
Most people have little pain after surgery. You’ll likely have swelling and mild discomfort for 3 or so days. Your mouth may need a few weeks to completely heal. Most people return to normal activities within a week
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks and before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from another dental practitioner as well to make an informed decision.
